Braces That Deliver Beautiful, Lasting Results
Proven, precise, and more comfortable than ever. Whether you choose metal or ceramic, braces remain one of the most effective ways to achieve a healthy, confident smile—for patients of all ages.

Two Great Options. One Expert Team.
At NorthStar Orthodontics, we offer both metal and ceramic braces so you can choose the option that best fits your lifestyle and goals. Both deliver outstanding results—the right choice depends on your preferences, treatment needs, and budget.
Metal Braces
The gold standard of orthodontics. Today's metal braces are smaller, more comfortable, and more efficient than ever before.
- Most effective option for complex bite and alignment issues
- Smaller, sleeker brackets than previous generations
- Extremely durable throughout treatment
- Often the fastest path to results
- Fun colored bands let kids and teens personalize their look
Ceramic Braces
All the precision of traditional braces with a more discreet appearance. Ceramic brackets are designed to blend with your teeth.
- Tooth-colored brackets blend with your natural smile
- Same precision and effectiveness as metal braces
- Popular with teens and adults who prefer a subtle look
- Strong, stain-resistant materials for lasting clarity
- Comfortable, low-profile design
Not sure which is right for you? Dr. Bonebreak will help you choose during your consultation—based on your goals, lifestyle, and treatment needs.
How Braces Work
Braces use gentle, continuous pressure to gradually move teeth into proper alignment. Brackets bonded to each tooth are connected by an archwire that guides movement over time. Here's the journey from start to finish:
Consultation & Custom Plan
Dr. Bonebreak examines your teeth, takes digital imaging, and designs a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs and goals.
Bonding Day
Brackets are carefully placed on your teeth and connected with a wire. The process is painless and typically takes about an hour.
Regular Adjustments
You’ll visit us every 6–8 weeks for adjustments. Each visit takes about 20 minutes as we guide your teeth into their ideal positions.
Braces Off & Retention
Once your smile is perfect, we remove your braces and fit you with retainers to keep your results for life.
What to Expect During Treatment
Comfort
Mild soreness for a few days after placement and adjustments is normal. Over-the-counter pain relief and soft foods help. Most patients adjust quickly.
Appointments
Adjustment visits every 6–8 weeks, each about 20 minutes. We work to minimize time away from school or work.
Treatment Length
Most braces treatments take 12 to 24 months, depending on complexity. Dr. Bonebreak will give you a personalized estimate at your consultation.
Daily Care
Brush after every meal, floss daily with a floss threader, and avoid hard or sticky foods. We’ll give you a complete care guide on bonding day.

Common Questions About Braces
Do braces hurt?
You may feel mild soreness for a few days after braces are placed and after each adjustment. This is completely normal and manageable with over-the-counter pain relief and soft foods. Most patients say the discomfort is much less than they expected.
How long will I need braces?
Most treatments take 12 to 24 months, depending on the complexity of your case. During your consultation, Dr. Bonebreak will provide a personalized timeline based on your specific needs.
Metal or ceramic—which should I choose?
Both deliver excellent results. Metal braces are the most versatile and often the fastest option. Ceramic braces offer a more discreet look with tooth-colored brackets. Dr. Bonebreak will help you decide based on your goals and treatment needs.
Can adults get braces?
Absolutely. Braces work beautifully for adults. There’s no age limit for orthodontic treatment, and many of our patients are adults who want to improve their smile and bite health.
How do I care for my braces?
Brush after every meal, floss daily using a floss threader or water flosser, and avoid hard, sticky, or crunchy foods that could damage brackets. We’ll provide a detailed care guide and tips on bonding day.
What foods should I avoid?
Hard foods like nuts, ice, and hard candy; sticky foods like caramel and taffy; and crunchy items like popcorn and chips. We’ll give you a complete list, plus plenty of braces-friendly alternatives.
What happens if a bracket breaks?
It happens occasionally and it’s not an emergency. Call our office and we’ll schedule a quick repair visit. In the meantime, you can use orthodontic wax to keep the bracket comfortable.
